People often talk about north and south Jersey, but the central section of the state is rarely mentioned. Nevertheless, nestled in the heart of the region is the borough of Metuchen, a Middlesex County town that offers a true “small town USA” atmosphere with welcoming residents, beautiful scenery and a thriving sense of community. If you’ve recently moved to Woodmont Metro, our beautiful apartment community in Metuchen, here are four things to know about the wonderful borough:
1. It has a municipal pool
Although some apartment communities offer a courtyard swimming pool on premise, Metuchen borough proudly offers its inhabitants a communal pool to share throughout the warm months of summer. Although the hours of operation can change due to weather or special events, the Metuchen Municipal Pool is typically open weekends, starting Memorial Day, but will be available for use full-time come June 23rd. Adults and children alike can enjoy the slides and diving boards, or just sit back, relax and soak in some sun.
2. There are countless clubs and programs to join
The Metuchen Department of Recreation has a seemingly endless list of activities, events, clubs and programs to partake in, serving almost every age and personality. Sport programs – including lessons, camps and clubs – make up a large chunk of the list; you can choose between youth and adult basketball, volleyball, golf, softball, baseball and tennis to participate in. There’s also art classes and a drama program for the more creative types. Additionally, the borough of Metuchen hosts a handful of special events, including a mother-son date night, vacation boredom buster event, spring egg hunt, Santa visit, Jack-O-Lantern activity, daddy-daughter dance, family fishing trip, a winter parade, a science workshop and a Halloween poster painting session.
3. It has an amazing public library
Thanks to a stellar staff and active community, the Metuchen Public Library isn’t just for bookworms and students. Aside from the hundreds of books that line the library’s shelves, there are also services such as computers, printers, scanners, copiers, free Wi-Fi and a fax machine. Metuchen Public Library also provides the borough’s inhabitants with online continuing education courses; an e-library containing e-audio and e-books; a Hoopla program, which allows users to stream e-movies, TV series, e-comics an e-music; Zinio, containing digital magazines; Rosetta Stone, an online language learning lesson program; Mango, a foreign language and ESL course; and the Learning Express Library, which includes practice tests, exercises, and skill-building courses.
4. Downtown Metuchen is the place to be
The business district of Metuchen – commonly referred to as downtown Metuchen – is constantly improving, thanks to the help of non-profit organizations and small business owners who keep the area clean, fresh and up-to-date. Apart of the Main Street New Jersey Community, the downtown section of this cheerful borough provides unique restaurants, stores to shop in and things to do. Grab a coffee at Brewed Awakening, or order a pie from Antonio’s Brick Oven Pizza. As far as shopping goes, there’s something for everyone – from jewelry at A & J Jewelers to vintage home décor at the American Antiques Auction. If you live in one of the nearby apartment communities, you’ll have no problem making use of downtown Metuchen and all it has to offer.
