Enjoy the Beauty that Metuchen, NJ has to Offer

Metuchen – a stunning area in the state of New Jersey – is constantly full of life. Residents of the borough are able to choose from plenty of restaurants, unique places of interest and other community events with their fellow neighbors. A place that people are proud to call home, Metuchen is also a town where people are able to participate in a variety of outdoor activities – especially in the warmer months of spring and summer. If you have a Metuchen apartment or home, here are the top five outdoor happenings you should definitely check out:

1. Take a dip in the municipal pool

Even if you reside in the luxury apartment rentals at Metuchen Station – which actually has its very own stunning courtyard swimming pool – Metuchen Municipal Pool is open to all residents of the borough from the end of May through early September. The pool is generally open every day of the week, from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. If you have a little one, there is also a baby pool on the premise as well. The municipal pool, and all the residents who use it, is kept safe by a staff of certified lifeguards. For the more adventurous crowd, a water slide and diving boards are available for your pleasure.

2. Stroll through the borough

In an initiative known as “Walk Metuchen”, the town counsel of Metuchen worked closely with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation – a major foundation that focuses on health-related issues – to provide funding for a walking program to be set in place throughout the borough. Now that this process is officially complete, residents are able to travel to and from downtown Metuchen by walking well-marked street paths. This reduces traffic congestion, pollution and contributes to the citizen’s overall health, which were three of the main goals that the governing body of the area had in mind while creating the detailed plan. There are five different paths mapped out which lead to various points around town.

3. Join the soccer club

If you’re more athletic than the average person, Metuchen has a ton of different recreational sports divisions – from basketball to volleyball – that you can join. One of the most popular ones that the borough offers, though, is soccer. Metuchen Town Soccer Club is a clinic style soccer practice that takes place on Saturday mornings for six weeks, beginning mid April and ending the last week of May. Impact Soccer trainers lead the players, building their skills and allowing them to advance in their favorite sport. Space is limited, so it’s encouraged that people sign up ahead of schedule; you can register online for a stress-free process!

4. Observe wildlife at Centennial Park

The largest, natural space that is in Metuchen, Centennial Park consists of a 13-acre tract set within the boundaries of Grove Street to Wakefield Avenue. Within the park is Beacon Hill, which is Metuchen’s highest point at an elevation of 169 feet. The park is also a great place to observe the amazing wildlife that reside in Metuchen, including unique plant and animal species – especially birds – which are all able to be viewed from the walking trails. There are even more plans to expand the walking paths at Centennial Parks, and the land was even purchased by a matching grant to preserve the beautiful, natural environment for passive recreation. You can access Centennial Park by using the Grove Avenue service road.

5. Grab yourself an ice cream cone

There’s really no better way to end a warm, sunny day than with some much-needed ice cream. And while there may be plenty of places to satisfy your sweet tooth in Metuchen, one of the residents’ all-time favorite places to grab an ice cream cone is Friendly’s. The delicious, family-oriented chain is located on Middlesex Avenue, and includes an area for outdoor seating. So no matter if you’re a mint chocolate chip fan or soft-served kind of person, you can enjoy your ice cream in the fresh air at Friendly’s.
